Part 2
We're told all our whole lives that money can't buy happiness. The fact is, that's simply not true. Money can buy happiness. What money can't buy is lasting happiness. What money can't buy is fulfullment. That takes something else.
Here is the second part of a videoed conversation I had about where fulfillment comes from and how we can find lasting happiness.
So you don't have to look it up, here is Part 1.
Money can't buy LOVE. Fact!

For me, money can't buy happiness. Money can't buy a single smile of a person. Money can't buy a single laugh of it. Although money can help any people. Money can't buy happiness of one human being.

Some time ago, I really needed to buy a good house for my business but I did not earn enough cash and could not buy something. Thank heaven my friend proposed to try to get the loan from reliable creditors. So, I acted that and was happy with my credit loan.

Simon, every question you have has been answered in the bible. And it all centers on Christ and Him crucified. It comes down ultimately to God's glory. Our purpose is to glorify God. The world is in the condition it is in because all the world is living a contradiction to their purpose for existing.
"19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, “He is THE ONE WHO CATCHES THE WISE IN THEIR CRAFTINESS”; 20 and again, “THE LORD KNOWS THE REASONINGS of the wise, THAT THEY ARE USELESS.” 21 So then let no one boast in men. For all things belong to you, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come; all things belong to you, 23 and you belong to Christ; and Christ belongs to God." - 1 Corinthians 3:19-23

Simon,
I agree with you about money. It does not happiness but only in the short-turn. This is only one type of happiness (sometimes called "rock star" happiness).
There are two other types of happiness. One is called "flow" happiness (i.e., when you are engaged in an activity that you love). The other is called higher purpose happiness (i.e., when you participate in a meaningful project that has impact beyond yourself).
I wrote about the interplay of these three types of happiness a few months ago. Enjoy!

How can you have a part 2, when you can't find the first part?
Posted by: Ron | 08/17/2011 at 07:35 AM
Simon you confuse happiness with joy.
When you have better car , house , holidays, etc you can enjoy more. However happiness always comes from inside. Happiness is a product of ourselfs only. So money cannot buy happiness is correct because " you dont need to be anybody, do anything more or get anything to be happy" .
Hapiness comes from inside so no matter the money you cannot change yourself to be more happy.

@Michael Keyes - I'd say love of money and lack of money are two sides of the same coin, not opposites.
The one thing money can't buy, and the one thing that most of us truly yearn for, is real love. Some of the richest and most famous people ever have died sad and lonely - Marilyn Monroe, Amy Winehouse, Freddie Mercury to name three.

I think you miss the point. Money can't buy hapiness has to do with the way you feel your actions. To have a fullfilled life you cannot take shortcuts, money most of the time is a shortcut.
Happiness has to do with acceptance, to enjoy now and praise what is around you.
What makes you wiser and more prone to be happy is not the point of origin, nor the point of destination, but in fact the line that you run to get from one another.

Love the video. It spawned a thought.
Even if you had all the money in the world, Happiness is about feeling content with what you have. Whether that's your skill at something, your ability to contribute, feeling appreciated for an act etc...
Money simply solves one area of "contentment". But then someone may start focusing on other non-financial areas saying I need "that".
So money can buy you "contentment" for a point in time, same as friendship can, or a sunny day. But to always be content (and hopefully happy), you can't tie it to something that can be taken from you.
As Simon said in another video, he always looks for the silver lining regardless of the predicament. We can all find contentment by first acknowledging the goal is already in our grasp :) (a bit more profound then I intended).

Great post, is there any way you could include a link to part 1? I'll be able to find it on my own but it may be easier for other readers to have direct access.
Thanks!

Great video. They say the love of money is the root of all evil. But, so is the lack of money.
